Hunting and Fishing Reports
I hope everyone made it through the holidays and made time to go hunting or fishing.
Only the late youth season is going on for big game. It is only on private land in certain units. You can still go out and try for a Mountain Lion if you feel lucky.
Ice fishing has been huge this year at Antero Reservoir. I have been 3 times this month and the parking lots have been full every time. i haven't had the best of luck but I have seen pictures of what others are catching and they are whoppers.
The 23rd of January my Dad and I, along with a couple of freinds went on a Goose hunt near Windsor,Colorado. We had a great time and my dog Raven did pretty good for being more of a Pheasant dog. We got 9 Geese and 1 bonus Greenhead.
Not much snow this month but it has been cold and windy.
Many big herds of Elk have been wintering in the open in South Park. You can see them from highway 285.

DID YOU KNOW
The most familiar and widespread goose in North America, the Canada Goose can be found in all kinds of water all across the continent, from the tundra to the Gulf Coast. Some populations have become resident in urban areas, and are now coming into conflict with people.
At least 11 subspecies of Canada Goose have been recognized, although only a couple are distinctive. In general, the geese get smaller as you move northward, and darker as you go westward. The four smallest forms are now considered a different species: the Cackling Goose.
Some migratory populations of the Canada Goose are not going as far south in the winter as they used to. This northward range shift has been attributed to changes in farm practices that makes waste grain more available in fall and winter, as well as changes in hunting pressure and changes in weather. |
